Course Description:
This unit specifies the outcomes required to operate a tower crane for licensing purposes, and covers a jib or boom/job crane mounted on a tower structure, demountable or permanent, including both horizontal and luffing jib types. This unit does not cover self-erecting tower cranes.
Learning Outcome:
On completion of the course, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge to
- Understanding of occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations and legal obligations
- Proficient planning of tower crane operations while prioritising safety
- Competent identification and management of workplace hazards and risks
- Ability to inspect and select appropriate lifting equipment, including conducting sling and load calculations
- Thorough comprehension of pre-start, pre-operational, and post-operational inspections for tower cranes
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting load charts
- Skill in setting up a crane for safe operation
- Familiarity with load monitoring indicators (LMIs) Competent operation of a crane based on hand, whistle, and radio signals
- Proficient handling and shifting of various types of loads
Outcome:
A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a High-Risk Work Licence (class CT) will be issued through the WHS authority in your jurisdiction. (SafeWork/WorkSafe)
