This e-learning training course has been developed for personnel required to develop the skills and knowledge required to work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker.

This includes compliance with safe approach distances for the worker, plant, tools and equipment, supported by a thorough risk assessment to prevent electrical accidents.

Electrical Spotter Course Outline

  • Confirm all relevant legislation, standards, codes of practice and workplace procedures, and follow them throughout the work
  • Obtain and confirm the work plan, and prepare the worksite in line with workplace requirements.
  • Identify, obtain and check all required materials, plant, tools, equipment and PPE are suitable and in safe working order.
  • Identify the electricity infrastructure assets and voltages, and determine the required safe approach distances.
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, apply control measures and monitor their effectiveness during the work.
  • Arrange required work permits and confirm the safety observer’s role, responsibilities and agreed communication methods.
  • Carry out lifting, work at heights and use of plant, tools, equipment and PPE in line with workplace procedures, maintaining safe approach distances.
  • Ensure the safety observer is correctly positioned and maintains effective communication with workers throughout the task.
  • Respond to and report incidents or unplanned events, then sign off permits and complete all required records, reports and notifications.
