Course Overview

This course focuses on equipping participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct a pole-top rescue in the electricity supply industry (ESI) environment. It emphasises compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) standards, the proper use of rescue equipment, and effective emergency response strategies.

 

Prerequisite:

  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

AND

  • UETDREL005 – Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus

OR

  • UETDREL006 – Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus

 

Course Outline

  • WHS legislative requirements (overview)
  •  Workplace requirements for the rescue are identified and confirmed
  • Rescue equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE), is obtained and inspected in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Situation is assessed, and rescue response is activated in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Pole top is accessed in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Rescue equipment is attached in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Rescue equipment is used to rescue casualty in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Casualty is assessed in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Incident site is secured and entry controlled in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Incident is reported in accordance with workplace requirements

Learning Outcome:

On completion of the course, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge to:

  • Workplace requirements for the rescue are identified and confirmed
  • Rescue equipment including personal protective equipment (PPE), is obtained and inspected in accordance with workplace requirements
  • The situation is assessed, and rescue response is activated in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Pole top is accessed in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Rescue equipment is attached in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Rescue equipment is used to rescue a casualty in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Casualty is assessed in accordance with workplace requirements
  • The incident site is secured and entry controlled in accordance with workplace requirements
  • The incident is reported in accordance with workplace requirements

 

Assessment

The assessment for this programme has been designed to assess a person’s competence in accordance with the Training Package, any relevant Legislation and the proprietary requirements of the organisation or workplace. The assessment will consist of both a written and a practical component.
