Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) play a crucial role in ensuring workplace safety, acting as the voice of workers. They are responsible for gathering and sharing safety information and resolving workplace safety issues and breaches.
HSRs are elected by their workgroup members and serve a three-year term.
Once elected, HSRs should undertake our approved 5-day initial HSR training course and a 1-day refresher course every year after. An employer is obligated to allow their HSR time to complete this course.
In QLD, it is mandatory that initial training be completed within 28 days of the HSRs election, and refresher training every year after. Failure to complete the training within the timeframe requires them to step down and be replaced.
